ORDINARY EXTRAORDINARY - story 7th

“Lost”

Little Ann was a truly active and vital child. This story happened when she was three years old and was spending holiday at her grandmother's in the countryside. Grandma took care of Ann well and the girl's excessive mobility was under constant control. Nothing threatened Ann until one day...

It was a Sunday afternoon. As part of relaxation grandmother Władysława had a chat with her neighbour. Being deeply engaged in a conversation she didn’t notice that the gate of her farm was open a little bit. Ann didn’t use to mess such opportunities. Taking the chance of exploring the world, she left the estate. She went to a road full of cars. Walking along the road reached a nearby forest. Nobody noticed her leaving. But for sure? A grandparents’ dog named Orkan followed little Ann.

When Władysława came home and didn’t find her granddaughter inside, she did not seem to be worried. She went quietly to the orchard, sure that little Ann was playing there at Indians and trying to climb trees. When she did not find her granddaughter there, she began to search all the places the girl could be. Władysława experienced a lot in her life, but the loss of her beloved granddaughter almost made her heart stop. She ran to the neighbours, thinking that Ann had gone to them. However, she was not there. Together with her neighbours, Władysława went to a next house. After an hour the whole village was put on an alert. A full scale search began to find the missing girl. Władyslawa was extremely nervous and she imagined the worse: little Ann lying at the bottom of a dark hole with a broken leg or being drowned in deep well. Everyone in the village was running frantically, looking virtually under every stone. It the end, they came up with the idea to check the road. Then they noticed the lost one. She was mincing from the forest crying and being followed by Bolesław’s old hunting dog which was pushing with the nose the little child in the direction of the house.

Orkan - the old, wise dog of my great-grandparents, found and took my mother out of the forest. Otherwise, I might have been born.
