Spring in the Polish Cold Pole.

This season is not in a hurry to come to the Suwalki Region. When in central Poland the trees become green, in the north there are bare leafless branches. The fact that it gets warm does not mean that the next day there could be no snowfall. It is no wonder that when the sun comes out and it becomes warmer, the nature gets the lead out. Crocuses and snowdrops come out of snow first. Then comes the time for the pansies, daisies and tulips. Day by day, the meadows turn grey winter dress into a juicy green frock. The buds are visible on the trees. Carpets of white anemones spread in forests. In the usually lazy streams, the water begins to burble swiftly. Near the ponds and lakes the backwaters appear. Meadows turn into a wetland. Every day the bird's chatter grows louder. Finally the cranes come and about two weeks later the storks arrived. This is a final sign that spring is coming. Birds are hustling. Advances, building or reparation nests and small nests. Sex, a lot of sex around. Everywhere peals cheerful warble, terrifying scream of cranes, storks’ clitter-clatter and mysterious frogs’ croaking in  ponds. In the end flowers appear on trees and bushes. In that moment you should pray that the frost will not appear and bereave trees flowers. Cranes and storks begin to incubate their eggs. It's getting warmer. Summer is coming.

In the Suwalki Region, spring may more look like winter than winter itself in the central part of Poland. These photos were taken in May this year (2017). Eelier the days were really warm and the flowers bloomed. At the time we hung a hammock in our garden.
